Silence, Meditative Lingers, and Moments of Reflection
Wednesday Pause
Hey friends,
It’s Wednesday - another midweek opportunity to pause.
Perhaps your week started out slow and rough. Perhaps it started out wonderful and productive. Either way, take a few moments to be present in this moment and reset your focus.
This month’s soulwork theme is renewal, and we invite you to print off the offered illustration for your personal times of quiet and reflection. But for right now—whenever and wherever this email finds you—may we gently remind you of this: regardless of the season you’re in, or the set of circumstances you’re facing, remember, there is always something you’re being invited into.
Ask The Holy to reveal it.
-With Joy
Pause for Thought
"God is the friend of silence ... We need to find God and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. See how nature, the trees, the flowers, the grass grow in perfect silence - see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence ... Silence gives us a new outlook on everything. The essential thing is not what we say but what God says to us and through us. Jesus is always waiting for us in silence. In that silence he will listen to us, there he will speak to our soul, and there we will hear his voice.”
“The Lion Christian Meditation Collection,” compiled by Hannah Ward and Jennifer Wild.
Pause for Practice
Take a few moments to slowly and meditatively linger over the following words. Read the passage a couple of times and be *with* the words before moving on.
“A hurricane wind ripped through the mountains and shattered the rocks before God, but God wasn’t to be found in the wind; after the wind an earthquake, but God wasn’t in the earthquake; and after the earthquake fire, but God wasn’t in the fire; and after the fire a gentle and quiet whisper.” —1 Kings 19:12, MSG
Now pick a word or a phrase to gently rock back and forth in your mind.
Ask God why this is resonating so much.
Pause for Examination
Choose three times in the next coming days when you can turn off all noise, find a quiet place of solitude, and simply sit with the silence.
Set your phone as timer reminders right now.
